Liverpool coach Juergen Klopp hinted that his team might include a new player next January due to injuries that hit the front line.
"All the signs I got in the Dubai camp were very positive," Klopp said in statements published by the Liverpool Echo newspaper. "Against Manchester City, I saw a lot of positive signs."
"Yes, we should have done better. But we shouldn't forget who we played against. It was a really good game, surprisingly good."
Liverpool lost from City 3-2 and bid farewell to the League Cup in the round of 16 last Thursday, in the first match the team played after the World Cup stopped.
And the German coach continued, "I trust our development and the things we are doing. All the signs that I saw were positive."
Liverpool will visit Aston Villa on Monday in the Boxing Day round, as the English Premier League wheel returns to rotation.
And he continued, “We have two long injuries in the offensive line (Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz), which is not a good situation, but last January Luis Diaz joined us and was very useful. We may do the same thing again, why not?”
Klopp spoke about the 2022 World Cup, saying, "Argentina's coronation in the World Cup was well deserved. It is the best final I have seen in my life. It was very special."
And he continued, "When I watched the team and the country celebrate, I felt that the title came at the right time for the country in light of these difficult days. They have waited for this title for a long time."
"The greatest footballer I've ever seen is Lionel Messi. The way he plays football at this age should give us all a hint of how long footballers can perform at the highest level."
