German club RB Leipzig announced details of the injury of its French international striker, Christopher Nkunku.
Nkunku left the roosters camp after suffering a knee sprain, to call up Randel Kolo Mwani instead.
Leipzig revealed that Nkunku had ruptured the external ligaments of his left knee, without specifying the duration of his absence.
It was confirmed that Nkunku had a sprained left knee after a strong tackle from his team mate Edward Camavinga.
According to the French newspaper L'Equipe, Nkunku will be absent for between 6 and 8 weeks due to injury.
Nkunku is the second player to leave France's list due to injury, after Paris Saint-Germain defender Presnel Kempebe, who was replaced by Monaco's Axel Desassi.
The World Cup holders play in Group D alongside Tunisia, Denmark and Australia.
