Haaland's father: For these reasons, we preferred to join City, not Real Madrid

Alf Inge Haaland, father of Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, explained why his son preferred to join the heavenly team, not Real Madrid.

Haaland joined Manchester City this summer from Borussia Dortmund in return for paying the penalty clause in his contract.

Haaland's father told Viaplay: "The most important criteria we thought about when we were considering offers to Erling was the team's need for a clear striker."

"Manchester City got the full mark 10/10, it was the ideal choice," the Norwegian added.

And the former City player continued, "Real Madrid got 5 or 6 degrees in relation to its need for an explicit striker, because of what Karim Benzema offers, and the possibility of contracting with Kylian Mbappe."

Real Madrid tried to sign Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain before the latter extended his contract with his French club.

And he continued, "Erling's decision was to move to the right club that he urgently needed, so City met all the conditions, and Real Madrid has Benzema and is thinking of including Mbappe."

For his part, Erling Haaland, when asked in the same dialogue (How can you say no to a legendary team like Real Madrid?), replied, "Good question, you can't do that."

The Norwegian striker has already exploded with Manchester City, scoring 10 goals in his first 6 matches in the Premier League.

To be the top scorer in the English Premier League in his first season after moving from Dortmund during the summer transfer period.
