The English club Aston Villa announced on Monday that its Brazilian defender Diego Carlos has ruptured his Achilles tendon, and thus he will be absent for several months.
Diego Carlos (29 years old), coming this season from Seville, Spain, for a deal amounted to 31 million euros, was injured at the end of his team's match against Everton (2-1) on Saturday.
"Aston Villa can confirm that Diego Carlos has severed his Achilles tendon," Villa said in a statement. "The player will undergo surgery before he begins his rehabilitation programme."
Aston Villa did not mention the period of Carlos's absence from the stadiums, but reports indicated that this type of injury calls for an absence for a period of at least six months.
Diego Carlos, the former French player of Nantes, was part of the Brazil national team that won the gold medal in the football competition at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021.
