Valencia striker Marcos Andre opened up about his difficult childhood in Brazil.

The player known as Maranhão spoke to the Spanish newspaper Marca:

“It's complicated for Brazilian players because we come from very poor families. We are people who suffer financially, I used to play there without pay. ”

He added:

“I lost my father at the age of nine and had to play his part in taking care of my mother and brother.”

He also said:

“When you play football without pay you have a hard time helping your family, and you can't give them what you want, like buying them a house, for your mother, helping your brother get into college.”

He also added:

"The other option is to work to make a profit." When I came to Spain things got better and I was able to help my family, I thank God for that.

He said:

“I managed to give my mother a house last year just as I promised her. They're happy for me, I've always wanted to help them. ”

He added: "My mother was an electrician and I was helping her fix electricity at home."

And about his period in Real Valladolid CF, which is owned by the legendary Ronaldo, he said:

“My relationship was special to Ronaldo, he always treated me in a special way from the moment I came. He's our biggest role model in Brazil, and when you're a kid on the street, you're dreaming to become Ronaldo. I talked to him a lot, getting to know him is something I never dreamed of in my best dreams. ”

Maranhão, 25 years old, is a Brazilian striker who came to Valencia from Real Valladolid CF in the summer of 2021 for 9.5 million euros.

Maranhão scored only three goals in his first season with Valencia, as he had back problems and some issues with the former coach José Bordalas.

Maranhão used to play for RC Celta de Vigo, B, UD Logroñés, CD Mirandés, and Valladolid CF.
