The Dutch coach is convinced that discipline is the key to getting Manchester United back on track
The Dutch coach has already exercised and imposed his authority as the Manchester United manager: after deciding the exclusion of a player for breaking the rules set by the team manager.
Ten Hag was appointed the manager of Manchester United this summer. He seeks to change the situation in Old Trafford after a miserable season in 2021-22 when the team failed to qualify for the Champions League.
The first stage of his discipline plan is imposing strict rules on the players' diet, to the extent of regulating the way they should eat. It seems that, so far, the players have abided by those rules.
However, according to The Athletic, a player of Manchester United (without revealing his identity) has broken the new rules by being late for two meetings during the Red devils' tour in Asia and Australia.
Consequently, Tin Haag applied his punishment by excluding the player who didn't comply with the instruction from participating in one game of the rounds.
According to the report, Tin Haag was planning to use this player in the game, however, he prioritized the rules by considering being late for meetings as a breach of the discipline rules that he couldn't tolerate to preserve discipline inside the team.
This approach isn't new for Manchester United, as Louis Van, Tin Haag's compatriot, once applied a set of rules and harsh punishment for late players, even for a few seconds.
Tin Haag's discipline policy is yet to prove its efficiency, however; the team performance in the pre-season indicates that things are going well.
