FIFA: "Semi-automatic" infiltration technology in the World Cup for the first time Viva announces the activation of the “semi-automatic” infiltration technique in the World Cup
The World Cup ball will facilitate the use of this technology
The connected ball technology, which is used in the world cup, will facilitate applying this technology.
The concept of using technology in assisting the referees in detecting the off-sides has been controversial.
FIFA president, Gianni Infantino, announced the application of this feature after its proven success in The Arab Cup and the World Cup last year.
a New communications method with in-stadium fans and television viewers will apply via giant-3d animations screens to give more insight into offside decisions.
What did Gianni Infantino say about this feature?
In his statements to the British Sky Sports Network, FIFA president Gianni Infantino said: "Semi-automated offside technology is an evolution of the VAR systems that have been implemented across the world.
He added: "This idea is the culmination of three years of research and testing dedicated to providing the best for teams, players, and fans who will travel to Qatar later this year to attend the world's largest sporting event."
"FIFA is committed to harnessing technology to improve the game of football at all levels, and the use of semi-automated offside technology at the FIFA World Cup in 2022 is the clearest possible evidence."
How semi-automated offside technology works?
The new technology uses 12 dedicated tracking cameras mounted underneath the roof of the stadium to track the ball and up to 29 data points of each individual player, 50 times per second, calculating their exact position on the pitch.
The 29 collected data points include all limbs and extremities that are relevant for making offside calls.
The Al Rihla official World Cup match world has a sensor, positioned in the center of the ball, and sends the ball data to the operation room times per second, which guarantees a precise detection of the kick point.
This new feature provides an automated alert to the officials in the video operation room anytime the attacker receives the ball in an offside position, at the same moment the ball was played by another player.
